Our Purpose

We are a competitive fast pitch softball organization for girls 18 years old and younger. We host a number of tournaments each year and we travel far and near to compete in both Amateur Softball Association and National Softball Association tournaments. We are 100% volunteer. We are a division of the Vallejo Police Activities League, a 501(c) non-profit organization.

The purpose of the Hurricanes organization is to provide girls of all backgrounds and ages (18 and younger)  a chance to play competitive fast pitch softball. Safety, good sportsmanship and  fun are major components of our program. Winning is always our goal!

Our teams compete in Amateur Softball Association Junior Olympic Tournaments and National Softball Association Tournaments.

These tournaments are played on weekends throughout the summer and fall months. The teams are divided by age groups. Age groups are as follows: 10years and under, 12 years and under, 14 years and under, 16 years and under, and 18 years and under. Within each age group there are classifications of "B", "A", and "Gold". The "B" division is composed of teams that recruit their players from local recreational leagues such as the Vallejo PAL-GAL softball program. Some of these teams advance to a level of play that is classified as "A" ball. "A" teams are not restricted to players from within the local home league. The competition is considerably more intense at the "A" level. Finally, a team may advance to the Gold level of play. These teams are highly skilled and usually draw their players from a wide geographical area.

A typical tournament guarantees four games for each team that enters. Three games are played on Saturday. The results of the Saturday games are used to set up a playoff bracket system that leads to a championship game on Sunday. The term "seed" is used to denote the standing after Saturdays play. Generally there are between 6 and 24 teams in an age group. A typical Sunday bracket looks like this:

Sunday play is a single elimination system, a team plays games until they lose a game.  More teams in the tournament means more games on Sunday in order to win the championship. A lower seed number earns the team the privilege of bypassing the first stage of the bracket system.

If this seems interesting to you maybe you should check our tournament page and attend one of our tournaments this year and cheer the girls on. It is a good group of people who participate, a family event for most. Snack bars are open and exciting games are played from early in the morning until night time.
