2010 12 Under Hurricanes Tuesday 6-8, Wednesday 6-8, Thursday 6-8, and Friday 6-8 will be regularly scheduled practice days. We played in the annual Pleasant Hill ASA "B" tournament on July 17-18. It was a good weekend for us. We scored 30 runs and allowed 16 in the 5 games we played. We won all of our pool play games and were seeded #3 in the 12 team bracket. On Sunday we advanced to the Semi-Finals but came up a few runs short, losing 6-3 to Petaluma Steal Breeze Blue. Steal Breeze advanced to the finals and played Alameda Blaze for the championship. Our girls showed alot of heart this weekend and we are really playing like a team. Look for us on Sundays! We played in the Shotwell tournament in Benicia on 7-10/7-11. We played well and we are definitely improving in all areas. Most of the other teams are improving as well. The coaching staff has gone over their notes and will make necessary adjustments during practice. We will be in Pleasant Hill this weekend and we will be ready to play our game! On July 7th we scrimmaged the 14U Hurricanes and held our own just fine! We are small but mighty! We look forward to this weekend's tournament. We were visited by the 12U Tornadoes on 6/30 at our home fields. They came for a friendly practice game. The Tornadoes coaching staff called balls and strikes for their batters and we did the same for ours. 9 players were on the field and everyone batted. We played 5 full innings and everyone was happy. Thanks Tornadoes! It was a very effective practice session. 3 of our Hurricane players wrestle for the Spingstowne Middle School Wildcats and this past season they won the State Championship event. Good job ladies, we are proud of you.
When Hurricanes Wrestle...go Wildcats! Cecilys' dad (Anthony Kaluza) made the girls a deal: win a game on Sunday and he would dye his hair blonde. The girls handled their end of the deal so Anthony is now blonde. Check out the picture below.
Anthony sportin' the blonde mohawk. Thanks for the motivation! Our third tournament of the season was a learning experience. Errors on saturday caused us to play one of the two "A" teams in the bracket on Sunday morning. We lost 6-1 against Fired-Up and headed home from Sacramento. Our next tournament is July 10-11 in Benicia. We plan to play well. We have set up a scrimmage with the Tornadoes to help us get prepared. Focus, focus, focus!!
We took second place at our second tournament of the season! The fathers Day Classic in Napa proved to be a good weekend for us. We won all of our games on Saturday and made it to the Championship on Sunday. We will continue to practice hard until we learn how to win the championship game too! Order forms for Hurricane-Wear are now available. Hoodies, t-shirts, visors, etc. Contact Suzie for more info. At our first tournament of the year, the JLR, we finished "middle of the pack". (9th out of 16 teams.) We are a young team that learns fast. Look for us on Sundays! We had our first scrimmage of the season on 5/23/10. The 2010 12U Hurricanes scrimmaged the 2010 12U Benicia Outlaws. The Outlaws hosted the game. The umpires did a great job and it was an enjoyable afternoon. Thanks Outlaws! We threw all 3 of our pitchers and they threw all 4 of theirs. After 8 innings the Outlaws had 8 runs and we had 7. It was an informative afternoon for both coaching staffs and we look forward to a successful season. Message to parents: I have the greatest bunch of parents a Team Manager could ask for. You folks know how to be loud and support our girls yet not offend the other team. I will remind you not to fuss about the umpires calls, keep your cheers on a "team encouragemant" level, and don't talk to the girls while they are in the dugout. The girls should be prepared to spend 7 innings of time without parental input. Parents can watch everything the coaches do and discuss it after the game but please leave them to deal with coaches during the game. Coach Ron Schedule is subject to change
